Buckler: Also known as the "punch shield" in some societies, the Buckler is a quick, easy-to-use shield that is made for deflecting blows. It is not that enduring, but it is helpful for parrying attacks that would otherwise cause its wearer harm.

(Bucklers in later incarnations develop Initiative and more Defense.)

Targe: Slightly larger, and paired with wood as well as metal, the Targe is a small, round shield that is commonly decorated with a heraldric symbol upon the outer frame. Not quite as large as a Round Shield or as large as a Kite Shield, the Targe is used for close combat and for not only deflecting blows, but also enduring sudden impact.

(The Targe develops Defense, Armor, and Agility in later incarnations.)

Heater Shield: Usually associated with Knights on horseback, the Heater Shield is a square-shaped medium shield that is usually made of metal and designed to withstand sudden impact; most Heater Shields are light enough that they can actually serve to help their wielders assault with more Initiative, giving them a slight edge over other shield types.

(Heater Shields gain Defense, Armor, and Initiative in later incarnations.)

Reginald

Round Shield: A metal and wood medium shield bound by leather and reinforced with metal framing make up the Round Shield, a stalwart defense against most oncoming attacks. Round Shields aren't meant to be showy, but are designed to get their enduring job done effectively. Round Shields can take more punishment than most other shields, serving as a reliable sidearm to Knights, Barbarians, and even Clerics.

(Round Shields gain in Defense and Armor in later incarnations. They are the most balanced of the shields, alongside Kite Shields.)

Reginald

Kite Shield: Named for its kite-like appearance in its design, the Kite Shield was designed to create a focal point on a shield where it would absorb the most force, effectively making the Kite Shield a secondary weapon skill rather than just a piece of wood between opponents; Kite Shields provide an adequate defense for their wearers, allowing them to avoid attacks more often, however not overall enduring as much as the Round Shield.

(Kite Shields gain more Defense than the Round Shield, but gain less Armor than them in later incarnations.)

Reginald

Oblong Shield: A metal-cap shield with a wooden inlay, the Oblong Shield acts as a mobile shell for its wielder, providing reliable cover and defense against most enemy onslaughts. The Oblong Shield is marginally better than the Kite and Round Shield in that it can endure more damage.

(Oblong Shields take the best of both worlds from Round and Kite Shields, allowing for a balanced development in Defense and Armor.)

Reginald

Tower Shield: Also known as the Wall Shield, the Tower Shield usually stands about four to five feet, and is usually made from a wood surface and metal frame; Tower Shields can withstand the most punishment out of all shields, however due to their size they are incredibly bulky; this makes attempting to take the initiative very difficult for someone wielding one.

(Tower Shields gain the most Defense and Armor out of all Shields, however they suffer an Initiative penalty, even in later incarnations.)

Headwear: Although they take a bit of a backseat role in regards to an adventurer's arsenal, Headwear becomes extremely important so as to avoid painful blows to the face and neck. Headwear can vary in its effectiveness, from lowly cloth hats to durable plate helmets; headwear serves as a "crowning glory" for an adventurer's finished outfit.

Headwear Summary:

- Cloth Hat: +1 Armor (15g)

- Wizard Hat: +1 Armor, +1 Agility (250g)

- Chainmail Coif: +1 Defense, +2 Armor (450g)

- War Hat: +2 Defense, +2 Armor (1000g)

- Close Helmet: +2 Defense, +3 Armor (1250g)

- Plate Helmet: +3 Defense, +5 Armor (5000g)

Cloth Hat: Whether its a hood, hat, or kerchief; the Cloth Hat is the lightest of Headwear available, providing its wearer with just a dash of protection, but enough potential to fully utilize one's movement and cunning.

(Cloth Hats increase in Armor, and later Initiative in later incarnations.)

Reginald

Wizard Hat: As the name implies, a type of headwear mostly worn by Wizards; the most commonly seen Wizard Hat is the foppish, wide-brimmed variety sometimes with a buckle along the top. Wizard Hats don't differ too much from Cloth Hats, however they do provide a limited amount of magical protection.

(Wizard Hats give a dash of Armor and some Agility, and later also give some Magic Armor.)
