Weapon Styles: Power vs Protection

Currently, all kinds of weapons in Yserbius and Twinion are one handed, meaning you can always place a shield in the other hand. Even if this makes little sense, such as wielding a longbow and a shield at the same time, or a quarterstaff and a shield.

What if some weapons, not just limited to the "obvious" types mentioned above, were strictly made to be held in both hands (meaning the shield slot will just "lock" when said weapon is equipped, and fail to equip when there is a shield already in place)?

This could be played around with quite a bit. Such as, two-handed weapons can hit an adjacent enemy to your target. Or, they have higher Dexterity (but lower Strength, due to being slower, as they would be easier to avoid or parry) but lower your Initiative.

Furthermore, what about certain lighter weapons being used in each hand? This could mean a penalty in Defense and Strength while letting you attack twice per round (the second attack being futile if they perish in the first attack). Yes it sounds very, very powerful, but it would make some classes more unique in how they fight in melee, such as the Thief or Ranger. Again, the actual benefits and penalties can be discussed and balanced after flavor, but since these games are all about exploring dungeons and fighting with friends to solve puzzles, I think it'd work out.

Thanks for reading!

The idea of changing up combat styles is definitely something I would love to see; right now it's pretty simplistic, but functional. would like to see some weapons benefit from a two-handed bonus, and potentially see some dual-wielding or double-attacks from certain classes (I'm looking at you, Thief) that would change up how some tactics could be used in combat.

The other thing that comes to mind in this regard is how it affects difficulty; if the game becomes too easy because of new styles, then monsters would also have to follow suit in having some similar capabilities. Some do, though others would be overly simplistic to outmaneuver depending what combat style you're using.

Definitely worth exploring though, at least in my opinion.
