Increased chance to escape from fights

I side with Sir Robin the not so brave as Sir Lancelot. "When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled. Yes Brave Sir Robing turned about and gallantly he chickened out. Swiftly taking to his feet he beat a very brave retreat".

Or to better quote King Arthur "Run Away"

Thanks for the laugh, G2G

That being said however, I was just questing in The Dwarf Kingdom, Land of the Giants and Rivers End. Be prepared to spend 80 per cent of the time fighting randoms and 20 percent on the quest. I would say 4 out of every 6 moves genterated a random fight and in no case did the flee button work. I liked it the way it worked in the original game. Players had the choice to fight or flee and it did not negatively impact other players.

I like the way Grobrak has laid out the possibilities of fleeing, agility, and class all working together.

I prefer to fight through things in a party and run away as a solo player, if I have a general idea of how difficult the battles are. There are several spots in the second and third quest loops where the random encounters end up being very difficult, even if the required battles are manageable. At that point, I prefer to run and hide and wait until I get back up to less difficult levels before I start fighting the random battles again. It might be good to tweak the flee rates so that a solo player can get away more easily than those playing with friends. Otherwise, it gets aggravating to get repeatedly killed as I go along.

Grobrak

After reading Silver's post, I wonder if perhaps the random encounters should be tweaked so you don't end up fighting harder enemies on earlier floors - you know, "flatten the curve" of the difficulty.

There's a little coronahumor for ya!

Just as an example, in Rivers End and land of Giants, a random encounter is 3 Dragons, 6 Manticores and 8 Goblin Kings. Takes a while to complete each fight given the enemies. Now there was never a danger of me losing at my level (Meaning I wasn't adventuring beyond my capability) but it sure took a long time and I have to say reduced the enjoyment of the experience. It was somewhat akin to the water torture. Afraid to take a step because you just know you will get stuck in another random. Having to backtrack because some of the maps were off was really tough.

Hail all, thank you for the great thoughts in this thread.

The next patch will see your chance to flee increase a good deal. It is a first draft of a new flee setup. I have added a github issue to remind me to add an 'overwhelm' factor in the future.
