Grobrak | Mar 18, 2020 | I realized that while spells can be resisted, meaning they deal half of their intended damage, physical attacks can miss, hit or crit in various degrees. I thought it would be interesting from a gameplay standpoint if there was a system for a reverse crit before your character actually outright misses, meaning your damage is penalized and reduced instead of increased. Here's the Why: Since you are striving to make MedievaLands better and better and want to differentiate the classes from each other to give them more defind roles, I figure low Strength characters (or those fighitng enemies with very high Defense) should still be able to deal some damage without missing outright. Not every swing of a weapon will strike as hard or quite make their mark. I feel like this would help with character's stat building as well. I admit though it is probably mostly for flavor over efficiency, hehe. If everyone's favorite Grobrak the Stoic had 54 Dexterity, let's say a glancing blow would look something like this: Grobrak attacks Novice Thief and just barely hits for 27 damage. Anyways, it's just a thought, haha. |
ZaneDubya | Mar 19, 2020 | Of course... monsters would be able to do glancing blows as well, right? This would make sure things are kept even. |
ZaneDubya | Mar 19, 2020 | This would be one of the easiest changes to make. And I really like it. |
Grobrak | Mar 19, 2020 | Oh, I can't believe I didn't add that little detail - you are completely right Zane, monsters should undoubtedly work this way too! I'm glad you like it I feel like this would help with character growth as well, as making a Defense-based character would be even more useful. Instead of hoping for outright misses, enemies' blows would be more likely to glance, causing less damage. It's a good big step in the right direction to create a "tank"-type of character! Plus, imagine heavily armored ogres or the tough scales of dragons being more difficult to pierce... Edited Mar 19, 2020 |
