Adjustable Spells and Spell Tiering

Using Skills at their maximum available level isn't an issue since they don't really require any resources like Mana to be used... Spells however...

Some Spells grow disproportionately in their mana cost vs their current efficacy. It's really helpful that we can see exactly how much a spell will cost to cast in the Guild, and that we can adjust its level when we are adding points into it, but it would be nice to be able to choose what level the Spell should be cast at in combat.

This has been normal in a lot of similar dungeon crawler type games, such as Lands of Lore or Dungeon Master. I understand if this isn't a priority or if it is very difficult to code into the game (including the necessary UI elements) but the way I see it... There's a couple ways this could work:

Either we have a new little UI element on the magic screen in battle, an arrow left, an arrow right, and a number in the middle indicating which level of the spell you're going to cast, perhaps on the bottom or top of the screen.

The other way is more complicated - tiering Spells so every and each one don't have 12 levels, but rather 4. Then you could "simply" have 4 roman numeral buttons to toggle between in the magic screen to dictate what level of the spell you wish to cast.

On the topic of tiering Spells, I had a completely different suggestion:

It would be interesting if Spells "grew" different properties similarly to how some Skills do as they gain levels. For instance, imagine if Lightning started dealing group damage like Storm Wind at its highest tiers, or if higher levels of Heal made you cast it at a higher Initiative, making sure it has a higher chance of casting before your enemies attack again. There's quite a few possibilities with that.

That would possibly work even better if the Spells were redone to have fewer levels than 12 (say the aforementioned 4). I understand that this would require a lot of changes to how many magic points characters gain on level ups, but it's just a suggestion after all
