I initially went through the Armory without getting my clue (I just forgot) and as a result still had the original skeleton key, and found out that that one doesn't work in the Rat Race.

I read over the FAQ/Walkthrough and realized I didn't use it in the armory, so I went back, used it, got my 'clue', got my skeleton key taken away when I finished the quest, then got it again, only to find out that this one doesn't work in the Rat Race either.

I'm pretty sure I'm at the right door since it says 'skull and crossbones', but I'm stuck and can't figure out what's going on.

Any thoughts before I retrace my steps for the second time?

EDIT: I retraced the entire sequence of the armory, having the skeleton key taken away, going through the vault, and getting the skeleton key again, and going back to the rat race to the same correct door, and my character is officially completely stuck.

I do remember that there was a brief internet connection issue with the server when I first was in the armory, so would this have anything to do with it? Would that have hosed my character? Or am I missing something?

EDIT #2: I went all the way over to the Race Track to see if that worked. It didn't. Maybe this is some sort of weird bug?

EDIT #3: I deleted all of my leather map items from the skeleton key, frellowship key, spidersilk helm, knights breastplate (which I can't get back), and went all the way back to get the life jacket, fellowship key, skeleton key, did the entire armory again (skipped Tipekans since that's set), went to the rat race again, and the key still doesn't work.

Maybe you're supposed to have the knights breastplate on when you get the 2nd skeleton key? But I can't get it back unless Zane or someone gives it back to me. I do know that the message when getting it a second time told me I needed to use it for my armor, which I already had.

Maybe this is a bug?

Update:

I went to a few twitch streams of the this stuff and noticed that the text should have changed when giving up the skeleton key in the armory, and that getting the skeleton key a 2nd time has different text.

Well, for my Knight, this never happened and I think the character is just stuck.

I went all the way back to the beginning as an Elf Wizard (who I'm replying as) and went through the whole thing without a problem and now I have a complete map. The only thing I can figure is that when the server connection died with my Elf Knight, it somehow caused the Leather Map quest to just be permanently broken.

Oh well. I like things better as a wizard anyway I guess.
