ZaneDubya | Jun 29, 2020 | Hi all, the MedievaLands game server had an outage of approximately 16 hours from 5 PM on Sunday June 28 to 9 AM Monday June 29 (all times in Central time zone). I discovered the outage at 9 AM, took ten minutes to make sure that all the saved data was intact and the automatic backup system was functional, and then rebooted the server. The server came up without incident. The root cause was in the network stack, which found itself in an unrecoverable state when out of sync with a client. This should be a very rare circumstance. I am looking at the packet handler now to see if I can robustify it. |
ZaneDubya | Jun 29, 2020 | This is the first major downtime this year, as far as I can remember. 2020 has been rough, but at least the game server has been tough enough to handle most of it! |
ZaneDubya | Jun 30, 2020 | Another outage caused by the same error between 9PM on Monday June 29 to 9AM Tuesday June 30. All saves are intact. I have added some additional logging to help determine what is the root cause of the error. |
ZaneDubya | Jun 30, 2020 | With the help of Teiken, I've discovered the cause of the outages! A patch is in the works... |
ZaneDubya | Jul 2, 2020 | SHould be fixed in this update |
Teiken | Jul 2, 2020 | I just tested and can confirm this is fixed now :) |
