The store doesn't contain any Scroll of Fire, which means I cannot incinerate the lock on the door in Gauntlet Gauche. I tried other scrolls and items to no avail.

I could be mistaken but I think the Scroll of Fire is also used in the Queen's Palace to cross the spear pit after the dark (unmappable) room. I gave up on crossing the pit because I couldn't send light across it.

Hail Jair! This is an excellent point, and I have to say it indicates that I needed a refresher on Twinion's map scripts before I replaced the old set of items in the Keep. I'll check with the merchants and see if they can restock this as soon as possible.

Interestingly, there is no Scroll of Fire in the copy of Twinion I own! Nigel's guide, written all those years ago, either referenced an item that only existed online, or only existed in the pre-single-player version, or... who knows. Passed down wisdom is not always correct.

Any item that casts a destructive spell will do here. The Scroll of the Sun or Shaman Scroll, for example.

Ah yes, it's actually called a "Scroll of the Sun" in the original game. That was my first instinct but that confounded guide made me doubt my memories.

I have confirmed that the Blast scroll works on the lock. I had tried a few scrolls before which failed but must have overlooked this one.

I'll test later to see if it works in crossing the spear pit in the Queen's Palace as well but this does seem to be a solvable quest after all.
