It will run with Wine on Linux

In case you're a linux user and are wondering;

I was able to run the client with the latest Wine 6.0 and my Lubuntu 20.10.

I upgraded from my Wine 5x to 6x using a guide for Ubuntu 18.04 on computingforgeeks.com (can't post the link here). I did the wine upgrade because I didn't have any luck with earlier versions of Wine.

Edit: I've since figured out I can run this game with other/older versions of wine - if you need any help with your Linux and this game, feel free to post questions

Nice! I haven't used WINE in a long time but I read how much it improved since the last time I uesd it... I was thinking of building a "retro computer" and wondering if I should stick with a classic OS or use something more modern like free-dos and maybe get this game to run lol

I should very much like to know if the game will work with wine and linux.

It should work with pretty much any wine version, I used 6.0, but probably wasn't needed.

I would suggest (if you haven't already done this), first download and install "PlayOnLinux", then from there you can install a wine version of preference. Make a virtual drive with PoL, don't forget to install NET Framework 4.6.2 just as you would on windows. after you have all that installed, Dowload the CommunityClientWin.zip from the MedievalLands web site, unzip the encluded folder into the PoL wine C drive.

You have to make your own link via PlayOnLinux or, if you just used the wine that came with your distro (no PlayOnLinux), In the "client" folder that you unzipped into the Wine c drive, right-click on CommunityClient.exe "open with wine windows program loader" in the menu that appears, or you can try just double clicking on it. Different versions of Wine act differently when you go to run the executable.

Usually, the first attempt to load the CommunityClient.exe will crash when the window closes to restart in the new folder. If it does this, wait a few seconds to be sure it crashed, then run CommunityClient.exe again - it should run on the second try.

If you just used your Distros Wine (no PoL), don't forget you need to install the required NET Framwork there.

PoL Makes Virtual drives so once you copy the client folder needed for the game, the rest you have to do from within PoL and launch the Virtual Drive you made (if you take this route)
